Will the new Nikon high end SLR have 36 megapixel sensors? That’s what the rumors flying fast and high seem to indicate. The senor being manufactured by Sony is likely to be used in the Nikon D800, if these rumors are to be believed.
Nikon and Canon are both due to launch high end, full frame, sensor DSLR cameras by the end of the year. Naturally since the Nikon D700 was launched way back in 2008 there is considerable excitement over the upgraded version. 4 frames per second continuous shooting, full 1080p video recording facility at 30 frames per second and a headphone jack are amongst its rumored features.
The upgraded Nikon D800 was expected to hit markets earlier in the year by March, but it is supposed that the tsunami in Japan was responsible for the delay of its launch. In May a report alleged that the Sendai plant owned by Nikon had fallen behind on the summer deadline for the new camera.
Now that the company seems to have stabilized all kinds of rumors about the new cameras to be introduced are being heard. The D800 may be a mini D3x. It may have a larger LCD monitor that can adjust automatically to brightness. There is also the possibility of a new DX lens. It may have two versions in which one has the anti-aliasing filter removed. The rumors are of all kinds and unending. We will all just have to wait and watch for what finally hits the stores.
