At the recently held International Astronautical Federation’s (IAF) 60th Anniversary function held in South Africa’s Cape Town, Raytheon and industry partners congratulated the United States Air Force (USAF) for being honored with the IAF award.
IAF acknowledged the involvement of the USAF in the GPS program since GPS provides a number of advantages to humanity all through this space age era. Raytheon has been supplying control and command systems for the GPS constellation. The company saluted the US Air Force’s GPS program for its contribution to civil, military and commercial users throughout the globe and in the US.
The President, Intelligence and Information Systems at Raytheon, Lynn Dugle stated that the cross cutting and positive effect provided by GPS on modern life cannot be disputed. The GPS system has enabled global financial transactions, internet switching and telecommunications, generated location-based services and billions of dollars driving economic growth. Dugle concluded by stating that the company is honored to be a member of the GPS Enterprise Modernization team. The GPS Enterprise Modernization program directs its efforts in advancing GPS services and capabilities by improving ground, space and user segments in order to assist commercial, military and civil users. The GPS next generation operational control system built by Raytheon will provide actionable, predictive and secure data so that users are able to make faster real-time decisions.
