A developer of advanced vision-based IT solutions PV Labs, headquartered in Hamilton, Ontario, with a focus on image analytics and acquisition has declared that the company has received a licensing agreement assignment from Trivaris and MDA (MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates) to market the Ice Detection Sensor Technology developed by MDA.
The patented MDA technology is capable of detecting ice on a variety of surfaces such as runways, aircrafts and roads and is well suited for a range of transportation safety applications. The detection of ice on aircraft surfaces is critical for the aviation industry and a demand for the same has been expressed within the industry. The Ice Detection Sensor Technology is based on the principle of spectral reflectivity in order to determine the distinctive spectral signature exhibited by ice.
The President of PV Labs, Ty Shattuck stated their excitement of associating with MDA by stating that the two companies are working in tandem to accelerate the process of commercializing the ice camera. Shattuck added that PV Labs will demonstrate the cost-effectiveness and reliability offered by the ice detection sensor and the enhanced safety it will provide to the transportation and aviation industry.
PV Labs has been assigned with technical resources by MDA to ensure that the product development is on track and the prototype of the camera will be available by end of 2011 for product demonstration. The product is likely to be available by winter of 2012.
