Authentec, which specialises in providing fingerprint sensors, and software for identity management has launched a VPN security solution that includes fingerprint recognition for Android tablets and smartphones called the QuickSec Mobile VPN Client 2.0.
This client security solution is an enhanced version of the QuickSec VPN Client for Android. Additional features of the solution include the IPv6, IKEv2 with MOBIKE, Gingerbread 2.3, Split tunnelling, compliance to the B/FIPS 140-2 Level 1 suite, Xauth and EAP protocol, compliance to IPSEC and interoperability.
The company will launch the QuickSec Mobile VPN Client 2.0 security solution along with the fingerprint smart sensor on the Motorola ATRIX model at the CTIA Enterprise and Applications 2011 event to be held at San Diego Convention Centre from October 11 to 13. According to Dr. Simon Blake-Wilson who is the VP of Authentec Embedded Security Solutions, with the introduction of this new security solution, Android users can launch their VPN by just swiping a finger. This has been made possible because of the integration of smart sensing with the company’s embedded security expertise. The new security solution is now being offered as client software, which can be integrated into Android tablets and phones by OEMs.
Authentec has already shipped 13 million fingerprint sensors that can be used in wireless devices and also provides the smallest device for matching fingerprint and navigation for cell phones. Its downloadable solutions include the DRM-Fusion Agent which can be used in handsets that are based on the Apple iOS.
