Intelligent implant systems developer MicroCHIPS’ Illume product was awarded first place in the Science and Medical category in appreciation of the advantages the product offers to diabetes patients who need to carefully monitor their blood sugar to remain healthy. This product has won the 2010 Edison Best New Product Award.
Similar to the Oscars, winning the Edison Awards is considered a significant honor and around 2,000 members from the Marketing Executives Networking Group (MENG) a not for profit group that consists of U.S.’ leading academics and executives vote for the award. These awards symbolize Thomas Alva Edison’s personal persistence and excellence and inspire the U.S’ initiative to lead ingenuity, creativity, and initiative in the world economy.
MicroCHIPS created Illume Continuous Glucose Management System in order to compete with a growing number of state-of-the-art diabetes management tools that are focused on consumers. This multi-sensor long-term implant can deliver continuous, accurate, dependable and convenient glucose measurements for an entire year wirelessly. It can be placed under the skin. It is being tested so that it is launched in the market over the next few years.
The Edison Best New Product Awards’ Chair and Thomas Edison’s great grand niece Sarah Miller Caldicott, informed that the Edison awards motivate people to do out-of-the-box thinking to create products that enhance people’s lives around the globe.
MicroCHIPS’ CEO and President Ajit Gill informed that his company had applied their special microreservoir technology to create the in-body long-lived glucose sensors in order to help people more easily manage their diabetes and achieve better results. He added that this would ease the burden of patients with insulin demanding diabetes.
