Samsung Electronics Initiates Mass Production of Advanced Optical Sensing LCD Panels

Samsung Electronics has declared that the 40” ‘optical sensor in pixel’ LCD panels were massively produced in November, 2011. Each pixel of the LCD panel is provided with a highly advanced optical sensor, which makes these panels to enable accurate touch sensitivity for input functioning than the conventionally existing touch panels.

The LCD panel is built-in with infrared sensors that identify the object’s reflected images. The Optical Sensor in the Pixel LCD panel, employing new image sensing technology, is capable of identifying greater than 50 touch points at a time and displaying images with a broad-angle viewing and full HD resolution. These LCD panels can be deployed in a wide range of input applications and also in wall-mounted and table top applications. The panel surface is provided with a tempered glass, which is capable of withstanding about 80 kg of external loads.

In comparison with the single-way communication of the present kiosk touch panels, Samsung’s optical sensor in the pixel LCD panels represents a novel technology for interactive mass communications, as it performs multi-touching sensing and display of images at the same time. The Samsung’s optical sensor in pixel LCD panel can be used by professional consultants such as financial analysts and stock brokers, and also in eDesk applications for business and school conference rooms. A ‘Samsung SUR40 for Microsoft Surface’ table-type PC, developed by the company together with Microsoft, is equipped with the optical sensor in pixel LCD panel.
