InvenSense, the developer of MotionTracking devices for use in consumer electronics, has announced the release of the MPU-6150. The MPU-6150 is a single chip MotionTracking device designed to fulfill the requirements of high performance set top boxes, gaming console remote applications and smart TVs.
The 6-axis MPU-6150 integrates InvenSense’s MotionFusion as well as run-time firmware to eliminate complex and costly selection, qualification and integration. Its calibration procedures and sensor fusion algorithms guarantee optimal performance.
A popular function in several consumer electronic devices such as tablets, game consoles and smartphones, motion interface provides an intuitive interaction by tracking the motion and sending the data as an input command. The MPU-6150 integrated with MotionFusion coupled with calibration firmware allows electronics manufacturers to develop remote controls with motion sensors for an enhanced intuitive motion interface for gaming platforms, set top boxes and smart TVs. The present day traditional multi-button remote control systems make browsing and selection of content a difficult task on smart TVs, while advanced keyboards and touchpads are not only difficult to use and maintain, but are also expensive.
The MPU-6150 includes a gyroscope, an accelerometer and a digital motion processor. The device is offered in a QFN package of 4 X 4 X 0.9 mm dimensions for integration into remote control designs with space restrictions.
The Founder and CEO of InvenSense, Steve Nasiri stated that the MPU-6150 is the first 6-axis single chip MotionTracking device developed for remote control applications and addresses run-time calibration and other challenges faced by the industry. Nasiri added that OEMs can easily integrate the low cost device into various remote control products.
