A novel wireless home monitoring solution known as ‘BeClose’ provides assistance to caregivers to balance the requirements of ageing parents, either nearby or far away.
According to research conducted by Portland State University 9% to 13% of all households in the U.S. with two or more persons in the 30 to 60 age group have two earners with care provided for both children and elders.
The BeClose system enables families to track parents and monitor their health trends proactively over time using a wireless sensor system that connect to a web site to allow caregivers to observe their loved one’s daily activities, learn their habits as well as the routines followed by their dear ones and establish parameters for receiving alerts when something is wrong. The families can stay in touch with their parents located at distant places and can also contact physicians in time.
The tech-friendly BeClose is completely customizable and is available in the form of a simple box when ordered online and needs no installation tools. It involves positioning the wireless sensors on all sides of the house and takes a mere 20 min to set up. The user then logs on to a private, simple dashboard that can facilitate customization for various timings and situations related to house movements, taking medication, eating meals, bathroom activity, and so on.
Family members will be able to log on at anytime to receive data and can have alerts sent through email or to a cell phone when something is wrong in real time, with charges for a monthly plan. These systems were created through a research and development tie up between BeClose and Alarm.com the top in-home wireless tracking system in the U.S., which serves many businesses and homes the world over.
At about $3 per day, BeClose offers an affordable option for providing real time data related to home activities and routines along with ongoing tracking and insight into the health trends of seniors over time while assisted living options presently available for seniors cost on average $200 a day. BeClose is a better option for those families contemplating retirement in the recession period.
Although BeClose does not resemble other personal care giving options it does provide a secondary option for many families who live far away from their aged parents or do not have means or time to provide them with care.
