Halifax Police Tracks Missing Patients Using Laipac’s GPS Device

The city of Halifax has introduced a pilot program to help patients who are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and various forms of dementia.

Laipac S-911 HC

This program is conducted by the Alzheimers' Society of Nova Scotia combined with Halifax regional police. Laipac Technology is providing the GPS device to this program, which was initially introduced in Canada.

The current phase of this pilot program has the goal of recruiting 10 participants suffering from Alzheimer’s or other associated diseases. The age of the participants can be 55 years and above.

A Laipac S-911 HC bracelet, which features an integrated GPS technology, will be fitted to the participant. Laipac has developed this device, which can offer the real time tracking data information about the location of an Alzheimer’s patient. This information will be then used by the Halifax police to trace and find the missing patient.

A shock sensor in this device is an added advantage. This sensor can give alert signals to the authorities, when the patient falls or slips. During emergencies, this Laipac device can make voice calls for up to 14 phone numbers, which also includes 4 quick-dial numbers.

Project Satellite Option Finding Technology (S.O.F.T) Wear is the name of the pilot program. The website of the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia provides more information about this program to the interested participants.
