Two Automotive Image Sensors from OmniVision Receive AEC-Q100 Qualification

OmniVision Technologies, a Santa Clara-based digital imaging solutions manufacturer, has announced that the OV10635 and OV10630 automotive image sensors have received AEC-Q100 Grade 2 qualification.

OmniVision has also announced that the image sensors are under mass production and will be shipped to various automotive customers. Similar in their performance, the two sensors are available in different packages which offer greater flexibility to customers during product designs.

The automotive marketing manager, Dr Mario Heid stated that the OV10635 and OV10630 deliver high dynamic range along with low-noise HD color images. The AEC-Q1000 qualified system-on-chip sensors are ideal for multi-camera and for wide field of view applications.

Offering a lens size of only 1/2.7-inch, it is based on the 4.2-µ OmniPixel3-HS pixel architecture, which offers HD quality color video enabled by its low-light sensitivity. The split pixel technology enables HDR multi-capture and minimizes image sensor motion-based artifacts including motion ghost artifact. Both the sensors can reproduce high-contrast images and use auto dynamic range control feature to adjust changing scene and lighting conditions to provide a clear and detailed image.

The OV10635 and OV10630 sensors offer automatic image control functions for automatic white balance, automatic exposure control, defective pixel correction, lens shading correction, gamma correction and automatic black level calibration. They provide display-ready, fully processed HDR video output in 10- or 8-bit YUV format of 18- to 10-bit combined RGB HDR RAW output with user defined data transfer and formatting. The sensors also incorporate automotive-specific features, such as a temperature sensor capable of automatic disabling.

The OV10635 is available in a CSP package of 7.8 x 7.1 mm dimensions, while the OV10630 is integrated in a CBGA2 package of 11x 11 mm dimensions.
