Cypress Semiconductor’s TrueTouch single-layer capacitive touch screen solution has been chosen by Longcheer for its new customized smartphone.
Capacitive touch screen solutions have been more costly than traditional resistive screens. They possess significant advantages over resistive screens in terms of power consumption, durability, reliability and optical transparency. Cypress has developed single-layer sensors that have led to considerable decrease in cost of capacitive touch screens. These sensors maintain the user experience and functionality of two-layer screens.
Cypress’ TrueTouch technology is an added advantage for the new smartphone. The technology provides high linearity, accuracy, signal to noise ratio, and noise immunity, while consuming significantly lower power. It is a flexible solution that enables customers to develop advanced solutions. It further allows the usage of LCDs and glass or film touch sensors. Customers may also develop novel mechanical designs in the form of curved or flat surfaces in different thicknesses.
The COO of Longcheer, Tang Xiao Xun stated that Cypress was a recognized high-end capacitive touch screen producer. This recognition will help in expanding into low- and medium- end markets. Longcheer had collaborated with Cypress and Topsensing in developing the new smartphone for China Unicom, which is a major 3G mobile telecom carrier in China.
The Senior Sales Director for Cypress in China, Andy Chin commented that the partnership demonstrated the value-proposition of Cypress’ single-layer capacitive sensor solution. It will help bring the low-cost capacitive touchscreen solution to the Chinese market.
