LumaSense Adds SmartDGA Guide to Dissolved Gas Analysis Technology Portfolio

LumaSense Technologies, a provider of gas and temperature sensing instruments for clean technology, energy, commercial and industrial markets, has introduced another dissolved gas analyzer for protecting transformers. The SmartDGA Guide is the third in its line of products for increasing the reliability of power grids.

The device is a dissolved gas analysis (DGA) monitoring system that has the capability to monitor moisture and nine gases that are used in DGA. When this data is used along with analytical software, it provides better information for identifying possible issues that may occur to the electricity supply and affect the reliability of the power grid.

The LumaSense SmartDGA Guide can be integrated with the company’s LumaSMART fiber optics technology that has the capacity to measure the winding hot-spot temperatures. This facility enables electric utilities to monitor gas and temperature, which can forecast failure of transformers. The SmartDGA Guide can be installed within hours and has a low total cost of ownership.

Electric utilities can improve the condition-based maintenance for load tap changer and transformer fleets through the SmartDGA Guide. The CEO of LumaSense Technologies, Vivek Joshi, stated that for effective condition-based maintenance, earlier diagnostics was necessary. The SmartDGA provides substation managers the information required to take action before adverse events occur.

LumaSense's gauge and guard instruments are part of the SmartDGA line. They can monitor dissolved gas inside transformers and transformer LTCs. They use non-dispersive infrared technology for tracking the gases.
