Trimble, a provider of solutions for applications requiring location or position, has launched a new DR+GPS Module designed for tracking of assets and vehicles. The Aardvark DR+GPS module is a compact solution with Global Positioning System (GPS) and Dead Reckoning (DR) technology available on a single board.
DR technology considers the last known position and based on that it estimates the current position based on distance and heading. The accuracy of DR is based on the correctness of the input data provided. GPS calibrates the speed sensors and the gyro, continuously, and helps improve the accuracy of data for DR.
The Trimble Aardvark DR+GPS module is suitable for OEMs and system integrators who require DR facilities for asset tracking, fleet management and vehicle navigation. It provides positioning information even when GPS signals are not available. The module measures 19 x 19 mm and is supplied in two configurations which support flat and variable mounting applications. The Aardvark 88788-50 model features an orientation self-determining feature that enables flexible installation.
The Aardvark DR+GPS module has a gyro that collects data about speed, and movement – both forward and reverse from sensors in the vehicle. An algorithm calibrates the sensor and gyro inputs. This information is blended with GPS measurements for deriving velocity and position measurements in difficult to access areas.
The new module with its automatic sensor calibration and detection, and variable installation support has made integration of DR economical.
