Reportlinker.com has added a new report on wireless sensor networks (WSN) to its catalogue.
The “Wireless Sensor Networks 2012-2022” report from IDTechEx predicts that if major developments occur in technology and standards then the WSN business will develop into a multibillion dollar activity.
WSNs are self healing and self organizing networks consisting of small nodes. They can be used for the military, industry and other sectors. Achievement of a twenty year life will influence the progress of WSN.
The report provides a scope of more than 140 developers and manufacturers. It provides a forecast for 10 years. It studies the hurdles for rollout and the ways of tackling such issues. Twenty year life is a desired factor and presently available power sources do not provide such life. The report studies the benefits of energy harvesting and provides a profile of 40 manufacturers of power sources.
The report focuses on the WirelessHART standard that is used in process industries and shows the benefits of the ISA 11.11a which may subsume the WirelessHART standard. The report also studies supporters of ZigBee-related solutions.
The nodes act as readers and tags and consume excessive power. Improvements have been made in decreasing the power consumption. Among batteries, rechargeable versions are more attractive than lithium thionyl chloride single-use versions, which possess a twenty year life under suitable conditions.
The report addresses issues regarding the 20 year life for rechargeable batteries, alternatives, and the various technology options – piezoelectric, thermoelectric, electrodynamic and photovoltaic. It provides profiles of governments, standard bodies and the creation of improved WSN components.
