TI Offers Programmable Solution to Enable Ultrasonic Signal Transducers

Texas Instruments recently unveiled a fully integrated, programmable solution that can power ultrasonic transducers for applications like blind-spot detection or similar object detection as well as for automotive park distance.

The PGA450-Q1 features low-noise amplifier, 12-bit successive-approximation-register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and highly configurable burst generator. It facilitates calculation of the distance between the transducer and the object and in processing the echo signals. Furthermore, the PGA450-Q1 integrates physical layer for LIN 2.1 communications, enabling the deployment of the specific communication protocol.

The attributes of PGA450-Q1 are summarized as follows:

  • Application specific standard product (ASSP) that replaces high-volume, discrete-based systems. It is being cost-effectively offered as ASSP, with non-recurring engineering costs and minimal design-cycles. It eliminates the need for intellectual property or market agreements.
  • Fully integrated system-on-chip encompasses all system blocks such as dual NMOS low-side drivers, regulators, oscillator, protocol for interfacing and a LIN 2.1 physical interface that results in a cost- and space-optimized solution.
  • It is made up of highly configurable features including 12-bit SAR ADC, digital band-pass filter, burst generator, low-noise amplifier, and digital signal envelope detect, enabling complete configuration to the client’s specific end application.

The PGA450Q1EVM will expedite evaluation of the PGA450-Q1. The evaluation modules like graphical user interface, cables, and example firmware can be used with the included sensor.

The PGA450-Q1 is available in a TSSOP-28 package and is ready for order.
