A group of combat systems was networked by Raytheon Company during an experimental force exercise conducted by the U.S. Army for evaluating both emerging and current capabilities for enhanced targeting efficiency and situational awareness.
Raytheon had connected many weapon systems and combat sensors for enhanced lethality during the Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment (AEWE). The tactical network incorporated the Javelin Command Launch Unit, a third-generation electro-optical type of Mast Mounted System, an enhanced Target Acquisition System and a Long Range Advanced Scout Surveillance System.
The company was also the AEWE technologies’ lead analyzer. This initiative involved usage of Raytheon’s MAINGATE mobile ad hoc communications solution as the experiment’s network backbone.
The Army is currently studying the data from field tests. The emerging results show that the netted combat systems and the lead technological integration of the company have resulted in a positive performance.
Raytheon Network Centric Systems Combat Systems’ Vice President Glynn Raymer informed that networking these systems enabled Raytheon to reduce to a great extent the engagement and target acquisition timelines via automated target reports and target hands of the slew-to-cue type.
