Sensorex, a manufacturer of sensors for water applications, has introduced the PH-1 Meter Application Accessory for the iPhone and iPod for measurement of pH values.
The device is suitable for scientists, educators and engineers who want to collect and share data in the plant, lab or field. The data collected can be sent by email.
The device can be easily installed. It can be plugged in to an iPod or iPhone, following which the instructions for downloading the application from the Apple App Store is displayed. This app can be downloaded free of charge. The PH-1 module can then be connected to the sensor. The free application will display the solution temperature, ambient temperature, pH and the millivolts in real-time.
The accessory is compatible with the Sensorex Model S293/30K/BNC/2.5 three-in-one pH/reference/temperature electrode and the Model S200C/BNC combination pH electrode. The sensors have an ambient temperature of -40°C to 70°C, solution temperature range of 0°C to 70°C with a ±0.1°C accuracy and a voltage measurement range of -1250 mV to 1250 mV with ±1 mV accuracy. The pH electrode performs measurement with ±0.01 pH accuracy over a 0-14 pH range.
The PH-1 meter accessory can be used along with a GPS-enabled device, which will allow time, date and location stamp. The results can be grouped and transmitted in .csv file formats. Transcription errors are eliminated.
The PH-1 meter accessory can be used in industrial processes and plants, and educational field trips. It will help teach electrochemistry to students. Data from a single sensor can be shared among the students having iPods or iPhones during the study.
