FBI Certifies BI2 Technologies’ Mobile Offender Recognition and Information System

Biometric Intelligence and Identification Technologies (BI2 Technologies), a provider of facial, fingerprint and iris biometric technologies, has received certification from the FBI for its Mobile Offender Recognition and Information System (MORIS).

The system is a multi-modal biometric smartphone-based device that is completely integrated. It utilizes the TCS1 TouchChip fingerprint sensor from AuthenTec. The multi-modal biometric device includes facial, iris and fingerprint recognition capabilities. BI2 claims that it is the only device that fully integrates the technology of commercially available Smartphones with multi-modal biometric identification capabilities.

The MORIS fingerprint module has received certification from the FBI that the device meets the conditions that are specified in the EBTS Appendix F Mobile ID SAP 10 under the personal identity verification single finger capture device specifications that are part of the FBI’s integrated automated fingerprint identification systems image quality specifications.

The president and CEO of BI2 Technologies, Sean G. Mullin, stated that the company was pleased to receive the honor of the FBI certification for the MORIS Smartphone-based multi-modal biometric recognition device that has found place on the FBI’s Certified Product Listing.

The MORIS device can be used for various types of applications. The device initially captures the digital image of a person’s fingerprint, face or iris. It then transmits the image over a wireless network in a secure manner. The data is then compared to previously stored historical data and the identification results are provided immediately to the law enforcement officials allowing them to take appropriate action.

BI2 Technologies is based in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The company’s MORIS device is yet to receive its patent.
