A new system called CUSTOM enables 80% minimization in the lead times of custom capacitive and eddy-current displacement sensors of Lion Precision. The “CUSTomer-Oriented Manufacturing” system enhances communication and project tracking via manufacturing, design and sales.
Lion Precision’ President, Don Martin stated that the company’s basic intention was to offer optimized sensing solutions for its customers. However, the company is now progressing to create upgrades or modification to the existing ones
Being an ISO9001 registered company, Lion Precision continues to carry out enhancement and close assessment of internal procedures.
According to the manufacturing manager, Brooks Moening, the new system “CUSTOM” was developed as a single custom order system totally controlled by a single person, unlike three individual system-configuration with inputs and outputs between each department. CUSTOM eliminates the need for long training processes for managers handling this project.
The company’s website displays an overall view of the existing custom designs, through which customers can get easy and quick access to the best solutions. By browsing for an existing design, users can select and decide on their specific application. Rather than investing for developing new designs, selecting the existing design ensures cost and time efficiency. The existing design can be used as a base for carrying out further modifications with minimal cost and lead-time.
Custom orders includes simple changes such as modification of calibration parameters or probe cable length to improve one specific feature in sensor performance, or moderate changes such as alteration in probe shape and size to fit a unique space, or transformation of complete custom systems by adding custom electronics and entirely unique probe designs.
