Masimo, a global provider of advanced noninvasive monitoring technologies, has announced that it has entered into an agreement with MWI Veterinary Supply for distribution of its products. The agreement marks the company’s entry into the healthcare market for animals.
MWI will be distributing portable Rad-8 and handheld Rad-5 ET measure-through motion and low perfusion pulse oximetry, and the Radical-7 Pulse CO-Oximeter possessing upgradable rainbow technology products throughout the U.S.
The equipment features technology that allows clinicians to take measurements of oxygen saturation even under conditions of low perfusion and patient motion. It facilitates detection of critical life-threatening events and avoids false alarms.
The National Equipment Program Manager at MWI, Kristin Krawczyk stated that Masimo's breakthrough pulse oximetry technology has been recognized by veterinarians for the accuracy that it provides during low perfusion conditions and even when patients are being moved. Krawczyk added that the company was pleased to partner with Masimo to distribute the pulse oximetry technology products.
Around 73 million homes in the U.S., which works out to 62%, own pets, according to an estimate provided by the American Pet Products Association. The Veterinary Pet Insurance company states that in 2011, the company’s policyholders spent over $46 million for treating pets suffering from common medical conditions.
Gary Marston, Masimo Director of Strategic Marketing, Alternate Care, stated that Masimo is eager to work with MWI and increase the distribution market for its products.
