HELLA and InnoSenT to Develop and Market Automotive Radar Sensors

HELLA KGaA Hueck has acquired a 50% interest in Donnersdorf, Bavaria-based InnoSenT that provides radar sensors.

With this interest, HELLA will become a provider of automotive radar sensors. InnoSenT has over 13 years of expertise in the design and manufacture of radar technology with established automotive and industrial applications. InnoSenT includes a broad line of products ranging from industrial applications for traffic monitoring and components for front-and-rear automotive radar systems.

At first, the two companies will concentrate on the development of radar sensors for HELLA's global customer network. HELLA's 24 GHz radar sensors were adopted in various driver-assistance technologies, such as lane-change warning systems.

Dr. Christian Amsel, on behalf of HELLA, stated that traffic safety can be revolutionized through driving-assistance systems based on radar sensors, such as lane-change and blind-spot assistance. Emerging markets largely rely on safety issues. HELLA’s 24 GHz radar technology is more cost-effective than camera systems or 77 GHz radar systems. HELLA's system also supports mid-range and small vehicle segments. The long-term experience and proficiency of InnoSenT will benefit both organizations, promoting their ability to fulfill advanced technology requirements for higher frequency ranges like 61, 77 and 122 GHz.

According to Dr. Wolfgang Weidmann and Robert Mock of InnoSenT, HELLA will enable the company to establish a strong base in driver assistance technologies supporting automotive industry. There will be rapid emergence of technologies and applications within the market.

Besides establishing high positions in the automotive sector, both companies anticipate advancing the development of industrial applications.
