TowerJazz has declared the joint development of Modiotek's advanced DSP (digital signal processor) for a wireless camera support for Smart TVs. TowerJazz's 0.13- µ CMOS process integrated with Modiotek's technology features in DSP forms the basis for affordable and rapid DSP product development as well as its reference design.
DisplaySearch study states that shipments for Smart TVs will attain 125 M units in 2014. The connected TV market will advance over mature regions. With superior broadband infrastructure, countries can easily adopt connected TV capabilities as part of TV feature innovation.
By using TowerJazz's 0.13- µ CMOS process, Modiotek's latest DSP – M90 combines a low-power H.264 video encoder with features supporting wireless camera applications. The M90-based reference system design serves as a novel product concept. With high demand for sleek design, a wireless camera companion will be the suitable option, allowing Smart TVs to hold camera-related applications including gesture control, video phone, and gaming. Smart TVs have been envisioned to incorporate such wireless cameras in future.
The first DSP-based reference design for Smart TV remote controls was unveiled in 2010 Modiotek, promoting mass-production of DSPs with several remote control reference system designs. Unlike MCUs, Modiotek DSPs are configurable and can attain excellent performance in remote control and wireless voice communication with high power efficiency. Modiotek DSPs-based remote control reference system designs can use a variety of wireless technologies, like Bluetooth 2.1, 2.4GHz RF, and Bluetooth 4.0 by the end of 2012. Using Digital, Modiotek DSPs can be modified based on specific application.
