Cypress Semiconductor has declared that its EZ-USB FX3 peripheral controller has been chosen by Himax Imaging for use in its USB 3.0 5M Sensor Evaluation Board.
This evaluation board can be deployed with various image sensors, such as the popular HM5065(5M), HM2056/2057(2M), HM3451(3.4M), HM1375 (1.3M) and HM1055(HD) models that serve in applications like industrial cameras, PC cameras, and document scanners.
FX3 is the only programmable and industry’s first USB 3.0 peripheral controller. It is armed with a versatile General Programmable Interface (GPIF II) that is capable of being integrated with virtually any system ranging in 8-, 16- and 32-bit configurations. Additionally, it ensures data rates up to 400 Mbps. Based on GPIF II, FX3 controller can directly interface to multiple application processors, FPGAs, or ASICs. This versatility is the key for allowing Himax Imaging’s sensor evaluation board to interface with a variety of image sensors.
EZ-USB FX3 ensures SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connectivity virtually in all systems. The on-chip ARM9 CPU core having 512KB RAM generates 200 MIPS of computational power and can be adopted for applications entailing local data processing. Furthermore, FX3 offers interfaces enabling connection to serial peripherals including UART, SPI, I2C and I2S. FX3 therefore extends integrated features that are versatile enough to allow developers to complement any system with USB 3.0 connectivity.
EZ-USB FX3 is currently in volume production. It is being offered in a compact 121-ball BGA with 10x10x1.2 mm dimensions with a 0.8-mm pitch.
