Summit Semiconductor a leader in advanced wireless audio technologies and an advisory board member of the Wireless Speaker and Audio (WiSA™) Association, will showcase the industry's first all wireless 7.1 home theater solution that transmits eight (8) separate audio channels at 96kHz sample rate and 24 bits per sample.
The 7.1 home theater solution was developed using new wireless transmitter and receiver modules incorporating Summit's latest chip technology.
The new transmitter and receiver modules are compliant with the current version of the WiSA Compliance Test Specification (CTS). The CTS outlines an interoperability testing and certification program aimed at products that offer wireless, interference-free, uncompressed HD audio by taking advantage of the unique 5GHz Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) frequency band.
The modules are architected to ensure interoperability between WiSA-enabled components that decode high definition audio (i.e. Blu-ray Disc™ players, A/V receivers, set top boxes, game consoles and TVs) and speakers from popular brands. Summit's modules exceed the requirements for system performance such as volume tracking, audio latency, network setup, audio channel assignment, and scalability.
"Consumers are demanding high quality home theater audio that is easy to set up and complements today's high definition televisions. A recent survey from CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) indicated that over 28% of TV viewers would be willing to pay $200 or more for a better audio experience," said Tony Parker, vice president of marketing, Summit Semiconductor. "Summit's 96kHz pre-certified modules will enable the next generation WiSA compliant systems to satisfy this demand while greatly simplifying home theater setup and preserving consumer choice."
Summit will be an exhibitor at the International CES in Las Vegas, NV, January 8-11, 2013, in suite 30-217, providing product demonstrations of the new soundbar, audio hub and amplifier reference designs for wireless home theater.
