IPSO Alliance Extends Partnerships

As a result of efforts to develop relationships with other Alliances globally such as ETSI, the IPv6 Forum, Z-Wave Alliance, and Zigbee, IPSO has recently reached an agreement to partner with the IP500 Alliance. "Our rapidly growing worldwide OEM membership all share the vision of the open communication standard of IP (6LoWPAN / IPv6) extending to billions of devices, such as those used in building safety, security and building automation applications.

The IP500 solution is a turn-key RF Module which now allows OEMs to develop, implement and maintain a fully interoperable wireless IP network of different objects (e.g., low-power sensors in a building)," said Helmut Adamski, Chairman, IP500 Alliance.

The IPSO Alliance has seated a new Technical Advisory Board (TAB) comprised of Jari Arkko from Ericsson, Matt Gillmore from ITRON and Yoshihiro Ohba from Toshiba. They began work on building a new technical information section on the IPSO website. It was a priority for the TAB to update the website to include the most relevant and informative information available. The new information on the website covers news about standards developments relevant for IP-based smart object systems, a "Getting Started" guide for building objects that can communicate, the IPSO Application Framework and pointers for commercial products that consumers can buy today. All this information is available at http://www.ipso-alliance.org/technical-information. The Alliance is looking for updates and feedback from both IPSO members and the general public on this information as more and more systems are becoming "smart."

IPSO's Interoperability (Interop) Committee is hard at work developing a new series of interoperability tests for 2013. Following the success of the 2012 interops that focused on Smart Energy, IPSO now plans to focus on building automation and building control for the next series of interoperability events and will continue its partnership with ETSI for other future tests.

Additionally, IPSO is working with a number of conferences around the globe to increase awareness of the benefits of embedded IP networks and IP in M2M applications. IPSO members will be present at a number of upcoming events, including CES 2013 and SensorsCon, and available to speak with anyone interested in the Alliance and our work in the Smart Object arena. IPSO is also partnering with Parks Associates' Smart Energy Summit once again this year as a sponsor, as well as Energy Harvesting and Storage in Berlin and the M2M India Summit in New Delhi.
