The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has placed an order for more Itemiser DX explosives trace detection (ETD) solutions from the security business division of the Safran group, Morpho Detection. The order quantity that exceeds 1,200 ETD systems is worth more than $35 million. The TSA order was awarded on the conclusion of a competitive contracting process.
This repeat order results in more than 1,600 Itemiser DX units bought by TSA during the last year as part of contracts worth more than $50 million.
The Itemiser DX, based on the Ion Trap Mobility Spectroscopy (ITMS), offers matchless contraband and threat detection functionality and is optimal for cargo, checkpoint and checked baggage screening.
TSA will use the Itemiser DX at U.S. airports. This easy-to-use, effective and lightweight Itemiser DX complies with the strict detection standards as stipulated by TSA. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funded the TSA order placed on Morpho. Besides offering improved detection capabilities for the protection of cargo and travelers as per the ARRA program, this order will also result in creating jobs in the U.S.
The Itemiser DX was initially placed in the qualified products list of TSA for cargo and checkpoint screening during March 2009. It provides qualified explosives detection functionality in a user-friendly, dependable, cost-effective and portable desktop package.
Morpho Detection’s CEO and President Dennis Cooke informed that Morpho is proud in TSA’s confidence in the ability of Itemiser DX to enable the protection of air travelers by awarding the repeat order in one year. He lauded the initiatives of TSA to provide better and more enhanced explosive detection capabilities for the airports in the U.S.
