Nonin Medical, Inc., the inventor of finger pulse oximeters and a leader in noninvasive medical monitoring, announced today that the company has donated six Onyx® 9500 finger pulse oximeters to the Evangelistic International Ministries (EIM) for use at the Hospital Centro Socorro De Lo Alto in the remote village of Sula, Honduras.
The Nonin Onyx 9500 is the world's first finger pulse oximeter with more than 1.1 million devices in use worldwide. Finger pulse oximeters are small, lightweight devices designed to measure and display a person's oxygen saturation of arterial hemoglobin (%SpO2) and pulse rate.
"Nonin's pulse oximeters provide an invaluable tool to the largely volunteer medical staff that are treating a diverse patient population in this rural community," said John Wilson , MD, a retired orthopedic surgeon who recently volunteered at the hospital. In many cases, the Onyx 9500 provided the primary vital sign monitoring of patients after surgery. Some of the surgeries recently performed at the hospital included gynecological procedures, knee replacements and hip replacements.
"Our donation to the EIM represents a commitment to help clinicians serve patients around the world," said Jim Zimmerman , Vice President of Product Marketing for Nonin Medical. "We are thankful that Nonin could play a role in helping these patients have successful surgical outcomes."
