Smiths Detection has started delivery of more than 100 advanced explosives trace detection systems to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA).
Deployment of the IONSCAN 500DTs at a number of Canadian airports is due to be completed later this month. The desktop systems will complement Smiths Detection’s advanced X-ray scanners, already used by most Canadian airports to scan hand luggage at security checkpoints.
René Shink, Smiths Detection’s Vice President, Sales, Canada, said: “The IONSCAN 500DT, developed and manufactured in Canada, remains one of the most widely deployed trace solutions at airports around the world. CATSA is a valued and long-standing customer and we are delighted that our technology continues to support their layered security requirements.”
The IONSCAN 500DT analyses a swab sample to check surfaces of items for a wide range of trace explosives and narcotics. Smiths Detection has supplied more than 24,000 trace systems worldwide for corrections, court security, aviation security, and force protection.
