New Capacitive Touch Fingerprint Sensor for Android Smart Devices from FPC

Fingerprint Cards (FPC) today introduces the FPC1020, the world's first capacitive touch fingerprint sensor for smartphones and tablets using Android. FPC1020 is optimized to offer smartphone and tablet OEMs unprecedented performance and enables OEMs to relieve consumers from the burden of using PIN codes and passwords for user verification.

FPC1020 has been developed by taking advantage of the aggregated knowhow and technology leadership developed within FPC since 1997. Experiences from fifteen years of touch fingerprint sensor deployments are combined with FPC's market leadership in the smartphone market, having integrated the FPC1080 swipe sensors in smartphones and tablets fast approaching tens of millions of units.

The FPC1020 silicon sampled a few weeks ago and the first deliveries of engineering samples of complete sensor modules to customers are planned during the coming weeks.

Jӧrgen Lantto, Executive Vice President, CTO and Head of Strategy and Product Management at FPC, comments: "FPC1020 will enable smartphone and tablet OEMs to offer consumers a compelling user experience combining great convenience and security with excellent performance and appealing design. There is an overwhelming demand from the leading OEMs to integrate touch fingerprint sensors into mobile devices and we are delighted to respond to this strong demand by introducing the first capacitive touch fingerprint sensor optimized for mobile devices using Android. Our core fingerprint sensor technology has since a long time delivered the best performance in the industry for both touch and swipe sensors and this has enabled FPC1020 to be uniquely positioned to drive the adoption of touch fingerprint sensors into Android based smartphones and tablets".
