OmniVision Technologies Inc., a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, and Gionee Communication Equipment Co. Ltd., a top-tier smartphone manufacturer in China, announced today they have jointly developed a next-generation 16-megapixel camera for Gionee's flagship smartphone.
Using OmniVision's OV16825 CameraChip™ sensor, the ELIFE E7 smartphone camera can capture 16-megapixel burst photography and ultra high-definition (HD) video. This level of camera performance puts the ELIFE E7 at the leading edge of high-performance camera-centric smartphones.

The 1/2.3-inch OV16825 is capable of operating in full-resolution 16-megapixel video at 30 frames-per-second (FPS), 4K2K (3840 x 2160) video at 60 FPS, and 1080p HD video at 60 FPS with extra pixels for electronic image stabilization (EIS). Additionally, the sensor features an on-chip scaler, and supports 16-megapixel high-speed photography, allowing users to capture multiple high-resolution frames in rapid succession. The sensor's 1.34-micron OmniBSI-2™ pixel delivers exceptional low-light performance.
The OV16825 is currently in volume production.
