SoftKinetic®, the world's leading provider of 3D depth sensing and gesture recognition solutions, today announced that SoftKinetic's DepthSense® 3D Time-of-Flight (ToF) USB camera and iisu® gesture recognition middleware have been integrated with the NVIDIA® Tegra® NOTE 7 tablet platform, and the platform is available to developers to create 3D depth sensor-enabled applications for the mobile world.
The Tegra NOTE 7 is powered by the Tegra 4 mobile processor, which features a 72 custom core GPU and quad-core ARM Cortex-A15, plus a second-generation battery-saver core. SoftKinetic's middleware and camera hardware will enable Tegra NOTE 7 to provide short range 3D gesture tracking and real-time 3D depth sensing, as close as 6 inches away at up to 60 frames per second (fps). The combination of these unique capabilities will be demonstrated at CES in Las Vegas, January 6-10, in NVIDIA's booth #30207 in South Hall 3 and SoftKinetic's LVH hospitality suite #28110.
Developers eager to create new applications and functionality that mirror natural movement are often frustrated by the limited sensor capabilities of today's mobile devices. Combining NVIDIA's Tegra NOTE 7 with the SoftKinetic DS325 camera, the most accurate depth camera on the market, creates a handheld platform capable of processing real time 3D distance data for close, precise interaction. In addition, SoftKinetic's award-winning iisu middleware offers a multi-layered architecture and multi-platform capacity that will allow developers to build once and then deploy across a wide variety of devices.
"NVIDIA is a true pioneer in the field of visual computing, and the Tegra NOTE platform is the perfect device to run SoftKinetic's 3D gesture recognition camera and middleware," said Michel Tombroff, CEO of SoftKinetic. "Our natural gesture interaction platform is becoming the industry standard in the living room, the PC, the car, and now in the mobile market thanks to the combined expertise of NVIDIA and SoftKinetic."
"NVIDIA Tegra NOTE 7 packs a considerable processing punch in a compact tablet form factor – making it the perfect platform to host the SoftKinetic USB depth camera and enable any developer ready to leverage 3D depth sensors on mobile," said Neil Trevett, vice president of mobile ecosystem at NVIDIA. "We've worked with SoftKinetic to offer developers a robust platform to enable the next level of functionality, accuracy and interactivity in advanced use cases such as augmented reality, gesture processing and 3D object scanning."
