Pepperl+Fuchs Unveils Multi-Line Laser Light Sensor for Three Dimensional Measurements

LineRunner400 is a new laser light sensor from Pepperl+Fuchs, designed to provide accurate three dimensional measurements on any object. This sensor, through several laser light emission, can measure both standstill objects as well as objects in motion.

The LineRunner400

While standard laser light sensors measure standstill objects in x and y directions, i.e. two-dimensionally, they allow for three-dimensional measurements only when the object is mobile. LineRunner400 or LR400, is a multi-line laser light sensor that works on the principle of triangulation. With multiple laser light lines, it can provide three dimensional measurements of the object, both while in motion and standing still.

LR400 is fitted with the required processing power to turn around accurate measurements and complete evaluation of the subject. This feature eliminates the need for a PC and allows the sensor to be used as a standalone device. Measurement accuracy is guaranteed as the laser envelopes the complete object regardless of the surrounding light or colors.

A special feature in the LR400 sensor is that it allows the user to activate the lines of the laser in any order. Adapted measuring strategies can be implemented to optimise speed and performance. The ‘Laser protection class 1’ classification of the device eliminates the need for any protective measures.

The sensor is ideal for applications that involve 3D shape measurement, volume measurement, presence checks, position control, height control, and tolerance control.
