Guam’s New Sensor to Monitor Water Quality at Cetti Bay

A new oceanographic sensor system was fixed in Cetti Bay by NOAA’s Pacific Islands Ocean Observing System (PaclOOS) to accumulate statistics on diverse water quality dimensions in the waters of Guam.

Apropos a press release, the sensor will initiate assessing water quality properties which comprise determining temperature, turbidity, salinity, pressure and concentration of chlorophyll in the waters. The accrued information would then be streamed over the internet real time.

Jason Biggs, UOG assistant professor of Biology & a PaclOOS Guam spokesperson, has said that this sensor collection would assist the Guam’s citizens to scrutinize the changes in the quality of water acquired from the watershed restoration projects and stated that in the future, additional systems are to be inducted with the help of the UOG Sea Grant and PaclOOS.

PaclOOS functions in association with the University of Guam, School of Ocean and Earth Science & Technology and Hawaii Sea Grant College Programs. Along with water quality PaclOOS also appraises other variables associated with coastal hazards, ecosystem health and diversity and oceanic movement in the coastal waters of the Pacific.
