SMK Develops New Capacitive CapLux Touch Switch for Curved Surfaces

SMK Corporation has developed and has started taking orders for its “CapLux Touch™” as an addition to its lineup of capacitive switches. This touch switch can be attached to curved surfaces using a double-sided tape. Because it is aesthetically pleasing and transparent, the switch can be backlit using a lighting source such as LED to improve the visibility in dark environments.

The “CapLux Touch™”, which will be produced at SMK’s Toyama plant in Japan, can support up to 22 keys. The touch switch sensor is highly-sensitive and the sensitivity can be adjusted. It is formed with organic conductive polymer, allowing it to be operated smoothly even when attached to thick cover panel thicknesses of up to 5.0mm for glass panels and up to 3.0mm for acrylic panels.

"This capacitive touch switch should contribute greatly to improving design qualities in customers' products.” said Katsunori Waragai, the head of touch panel sales department that developed this product. “Our main target for CapLux Touch™ is white goods and the consumer products market.”

This product is offered as a touch switch or a touch switch combined with an IC.
