Megger Offers Versatile Insulation Resistance Tester Rated at 15 kV

Megger, one of the world's leading manufacturers and suppliers of test equipment and measuring instruments for electrical power applications, now offers a versatile insulation resistance tester (IRT) rated at 15 kV. The MIT1525 measures motors and generators above 34,500 V and equipment rated above 35 kV.

Ideal for applications that use cables, transformers, motors/generators, circuit breakers and bushings, the 15 kV MIT1525 is compact, lightweight and has rapid charge capabilities. It tests the insulation resistance of high-voltage power cables and buses, large motor/generator windings as well as substation transformers.

Engineered to ensure the highest precision possible, the MIT1525 offers 5% accuracy with a maximum resistance up to 3 TeraOhms. It is rated for use at an altitude of 3,000 meters and maintains a CAT IV 1,000 V safety rating, allowing for dependable use in the widest range of applications.

The MIT1525 is uniquely designed to charge while operating and continues to take measurements when connected to a line power with a fully discharged battery. This intelligent feature ensures an optimum charge, resulting in minimal charge times. A rapid charge lithium-ion battery that enables more than 60 minutes of testing on a 30 minute charge comes standard with the unit, which can perform continuous testing for up to six hours on a single full charge.

This new IRT is double insulated and built into a unique dual case design that includes a tough outer case to protect the tester from knocks/drops and an inner fire-retardant case. The IP65-rated case also prevents penetration of water and dust.

With a high noise immunity specified at 6 mA, the MIT1525 can easily take accurate measurements in environments with excess electrical noise, including industrial locations or high voltage substations. The unit also delivers short circuit current with Megger's new max power regulation technology, ensuring maximum power transfer at 6 mA, no matter the load, until the test voltage is reached.

Megger's MIT1525 features date- and time-stamped stored tests that allow the operator to identify results and know exactly when the tests were performed, a dedicated voltmeter function with frequency measurement that allows the user to check for induced voltages as well as an easy-to-use rotary switch dial that takes the guesswork out of selecting the test voltage, test mode, memory and other functions.

This IRT also includes an additional user-defined test voltage that can be set by the operator and a voltage lock to guard against excessive test voltages being applied to sensitive equipment.

Preconfigured diagnostic tests that include Polarization Index as well as a Step Voltage test, Dielectric Discharge test and Ramp test are included in the unit.
