OrthoSensor Inc., the leader Musculoskeletal Digital Health, today announced that the Company was honored with Sensor Magazine's 2014 Best of Sensors Expo Gold Application Award for its VERASENSE™ Knee System at the Sensors Expo & Conference on June 26, 2014.
The Application Award was established to recognize and draw attention to exceptional innovations featuring new or novel uses of sensing technologies. OrthoSensor was awarded Gold in this category for its VERASENSE technology, which makes it possible to embed microelectronics into a standard tibial trial insert and provide orthopaedic surgeons with real-time data for accurate ligament balance, implant placement and performance during total knee replacement surgery. OrthoSensor's leading-edge technology means that surgeons now have access to dynamic, intraoperative feedback regarding overall knee balance, pressure in the medial and lateral compartments of the knee, component position and real-time kinematic performance through a full range of motion. This advance in technology is expected to yield improved procedural accuracy and better knee balance, which has been shown to lead to improvements in patient satisfaction, function and activity level.
"We are very excited that VERASENSE was chosen to receive the Gold Application Award this year," said Jay Pierce, Chief Executive Officer of OrthoSensor, Inc. "As an organization, we have worked incredibly hard to position our technology at the cutting-edge of our industry and we believe VERASENSE embodies the Expo Award's goal to recognize applications that have the potential to change the way people work by serving an unmet human need.
"Our OrthoSensor VERASENSE Knee System is the first product to embed sensing technologies into intraoperative orthopaedic devices in a way that can be simply and effectively incorporated into today's total knee replacement procedures," continued Mr. Pierce. "VERASENSE Knee System, along with VERASENSE iQ Cloud Computing Platform provides all of the stakeholders in the Orthopaedic decision with real-time quality metrics and evidence based data to enable better patient outcomes. We are very pleased with early clinical results demonstrating that patients with knees that were quantitatively balanced using VERASENSE experienced greater satisfaction, accelerated activity levels, less pain, and improved physical function and knee kinematics."
