Elbit Systems have unveiled a tiny wireless sensor system, with the ability to sense vehicular and human movement, when entrenched under the ground.
Named Smart All-Terrain Networked Detectors (SAND) the system has a five-year shelf life and can remotely monitor vast expanses of wilderness through the lightweight, acoustic and seismic sensors integrated within.
The sensor system can identify humans as well as vehicles, and sifts animal movements through inimitable algorithms. The sensing range of each embedded sensor is several dozen meters, and findings can be communicated concurrently to a command center on the rear side. The sensors are ensconced within high-pressure metal casing and imperviously sealed for moisture and corrosion protection. SANDS can be installed and left untouched for five years.
The system has evinced attention from IDF, Elbit, and some European companies as well.
