Researchers at the University of Arizona found that it takes only two to four hours for a virus to spread through an office, hotel or healthcare facility after a doorknob or tabletop is contaminated.1 To help organizations reduce the spread of infection, ATEK Access Technologies, LLC today released the new and improved Larco U-WAV touchless sensing wall switch, a sensor switch designed for activation of automatic doors, lighting controls or call points.
“The touchless capability is ideal for our customers who are worried about the spread of germs and bacteria,” said Neil Davaz, division manager for Advanced Entry Systems in Seattle. “The U-WAV’s low profile and sleek design looks great in any state-of-the-art facility. We’ve installed U-WAV units throughout six hospitals along the Puget Sound.”
The U-WAV touch-free switch is compliant with part 15 of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules. The switch works by sensing motion—the wave of a person’s hand—at a selectable detection range from zero to 15 inches. It features blue LED backlighting and is uniquely designed to be aesthetically pleasing while providing reliable operation. Composed of durable Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) plastic, U-WAV’s universal plate design fits most standard single gang electrical boxes. The U-WAV cover is available in gray, black or white.
“Touchless technology is a valuable tool in reducing the spread of infection,” said Scott Gardeen, senior product manager for Larco products. “The U-WAV touchless wall switch makes opening a door simple and germ free.”
In addition to healthcare facilities, U-WAV sensor switches are ideal for use in clean rooms, pharmacies, physician’s offices, restrooms, food processing plants, restaurants, and anywhere hygiene and convenience are required.
