Cypress Semiconductor Becomes Member of Fast IDentity Online Alliance

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. today announced it has joined the Fast IDentity Online (FIDO) Alliance, an industry consortium revolutionizing online authentication with standards-based specifications. Cypress is designing its upcoming fingerprint reader solution to meet FIDO standards.

FIDO members commit to share technology and collaborate to deliver open specifications for universal authentication methods that are interoperable, more secure and private, and easier to use. FIDO specifications enable biometric identity verification that protects sensitive user information and eliminates the need for inconvenient passwords.

In 2014, Cypress announced a strategic partnership with IDEX ASA to produce fingerprint reader solutions. Cypress will offer the solutions alongside its industry-leading capacitive touch-sensing portfolio, which includes TrueTouch® touchscreen controllers and CapSense® touch-sensing controllers. Cypress will be showcasing its extensive portfolio of programmable, touch and capacitive sensing solutions for wearables and the Internet of Things at Mobile World Congress 2015 from March 2-5 in Hall 2, Stand 2C26MR at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain.

"We are excited to welcome our newest sponsor member Cypress," said Dustin Ingalls, FIDO Alliance president. "The FIDO vision of universal strong authentication promises better security, enhanced privacy, more commerce and expansion of services throughout digital industries. Cypress's addition to our Alliance supports our industry goal to make user authentication easier and safer for all parties."

"Joining the FIDO Alliance marks another significant step in the development of our fingerprint reader solutions," said Hassane El-Khoury, Executive Vice President of the Programmable Solutions Division at Cypress. "Along with our expertise with capacitive touch-sensing technology and the broad adoption of our extensive touch portfolio for mobile devices and other applications, our FIDO membership positions Cypress to make quick inroads in the fingerprint reader market. We envision a very strong product roadmap that will meet the rapidly growing demand for personal security."

Touch Leadership
Cypress's touch-sensing portfolio is the industry's broadest and most well-adopted, including TrueTouch, CapSense and trackpad solutions. The company's IP portfolio is unmatched, including true single-layer sensor solutions for dramatically reduced touchscreen costs and self and mutual capacitance sensing on the same chip that enables advanced features such as noise immunity, waterproofing, proximity sensing, passive stylus support and hover.
