Digital Lumens to Deploy Sensor-Rich Lighting Network at O'Reilly's Annual Solid Conference

Digital Lumens®, today announced that it will showcase its Intelligent LED Lighting System during O'Reilly's annual Solid Conference, taking place June 23-25 in San Francisco. For the second year in a row, Digital Lumens will deploy a sensor-rich lighting network across the Fort Mason Conference Center, illustrating the Internet of Things (IoT) at work in the built environment.

Through a dense deployment of sensor-laden fixtures combined with centralized data analytics, Digital Lumens' brings a key conference theme – the IoT – to life by providing unprecedented operational insight into a building's infrastructure and highlighting the real-world opportunities of the smart building. Using occupancy analytics in LightRules software, the system will provide key insights about the conference showing attendee movement patterns, and highlighting areas of particular interest.

Animations of last year's installation will be on display at Digital Lumens' booth (#4) to show the exhibit hall traffic and occupancy patterns of 2014’s conference, including most active areas across the two-day conference program. Immediately following the conference, Digital Lumens will release an analysis of the 2015 conference with comparisons to the prior years.

"Lights are everywhere and intelligent lighting is the most natural delivery mechanism for the Internet of Things," said Jason Hanna, Digital Lumens Director of Software Products. "By 2020, one in five smart things in the built environment will be lights carrying sensor arrays and networked together. And with up to 10 fixtures per person in many spaces, intelligent lighting will become the strategic platform for intelligent buildings.”

With the largest number of intelligent LED fixtures installed in the world and the longest-running, large-scale deployments, Digital Lumens is redefining the lighting industry with intelligent systems that bring the IoT to global customers. The company's intelligent LED lighting systems – networks of smart LED fixtures with embedded sensors, computing power and the LightRules lighting and energy management software – maximize efficiency while gathering data for ongoing operational optimization.

Attracting a multi-disciplinary community around the convergence of hardware and software, the Solid Conference goes beyond the Internet of Things to discuss the new hardware movement, or the convergence of software and hardware, that is driving the IoT. Chaired by Jon Bruner of O’Reilly, and Joi Ito, Director of the MIT Media lab, the conference brings together engineers, researchers, roboticists, artists, developers, designers, founders of startups, and innovators to explore the implications and requirements of these new movements.
