Northrop Grumman Corporation, a global dealer of inertial reference, inertial sensors and inertial navigation systems and computers, has been awarded a contract by EADS Defence & Security’s Military Air System business division for supplying 88 inertial measurement units (IMU) for Tranche 3A of the Eurofighter Typhoon.
The IMU contributes motility data for the aircraft and will be constructed by Northrop Grumman LITEF, which supplied IMUs for the aircraft’s Tranche 1 and Tranche 2.
Norbert Sandner, the director marketing and sales, Northrop Grumman LITEF, commented that their flight control sensor device, IMU has constantly exhibited impressive performance in the flight by its highly precise, secure, progressive and updated technology that suit flight conditions.
The IMU system, fabricated with high precision static sensing device with inherent redundancy is expanded as a part of the Eurofighter Tycoon’s flight control procedure. The senors can monitor the movement of the flight and sequentially furnishes the information to the aircraft control computer for navigating the actuators and the control mechanisms. The stabilization system of the senors permits the aircraft with absolute negotiability and swiftness that it functions with high potentiality. The IMU also caches the navigation information.
Many IMUs have already been supplied and are in use in the Eurofighters in Spain, Germany, United Kingdom, Austria, Italy and Saudi Arabia.
