Sharp's Elm Ceiling Light Reduces Power Consumption

Sharp Corp declared the release of six varieties of ceiling light with LED facility known as "Elm". These products arrive in a combination of 46 W with a brilliance flux of 2,350lm; 59W with a luminous flux of 3,400lm and 86W with 5,100lm luminous flux. These products are likely to replace the fluorescent ceiling lights due to their intense luminous fluxes.

All the six varieties of Elms are provided with an automatic control operation for changing the color and out of these, three types have the capability to modify the cold color to a warm color  while the other three types have a permanent cold color. The Elm glows with a bluish color in the morning and at dinner time it glows emitting a less brightened warm color. The color fluctuating modification allows a rhythm in life apart from saving energy, Sharp added.

The "Eco Dimming” operation in the Elm lowers the brightness in accordance with the human eye adaptation and saves energy by reducing the power utilization and the "Eco sensor " operation decreases the uncalled-for brightness by discriminating the external light from other lighting sources. The Eco Dimming functions can save energy by 20%, and the Eco sensors can save energy by 60% and by combining both the functions the power utility can be decreased to 65%.The color fluctuating mode and the dimming mode were collaboratively developed by a research team guided by Yoko Inoue, Nara Women's University professor.

Sharp added that the Elms can be integrated to the existing mounts. The structural durability of the Elm is about 40,000 h, its diameter is in the range of 600 mm and thickness accounts to 43 mm at the 8 mm thinnest part.

The Elm is supposed to be released in Japan by September 17, 2010.
