Silicon Designs, Inc., located just outside Seattle, Washington, was founded in 1983 with the idea of improving the accepted design standard for accelerometers. At that time, the industrial-grade accelerometers on the market were bulky, delicate, and outrageously expensive. With that in mind, the engineers at SDI set out to develop a compact, sensitive, rugged, and -most importantly- reasonably priced accelerometer that would do a better job. Since then, SDI has expanded the capabilities of their accelerometers, introduced a digital line, designed a new breed of tri-axial module, and created numerous custom designs for companies all over the world.
The company has steadily grown over the years, but the core competency has always remained with accelerometers. Constant research and development has led to many breakthrough technologies and processes, and this dedication to perpetual improvement has been integral in SDI’s continual growth and success. The philosophy of "Make it better, stronger, smaller, and less expensive" is maintained to this day.
In addition to its exceptional products, SDI can also attribute its success to the people behind the products. From engineers to production personnel to administration, every employee is empowered, valued, and recognized for their hard work and commitment to excellence. Many employees have been with SDI for over 15 years, which has created an expertise that ensures quality.
