What does Hondata do?
Hondata modifies standard Honda engine computers (ECUs), adding features and expanding the capabilities of the ECU (e.g. for forced induction). These modifications are available either as a reflash, or a fully tunable system. Reflashes involve the ECU being sent to Hondata; programmable system require the ECU to be modified for pre-2006 vehicles, or an external programming interface for 2006 and later vehicles.
Does Hondata cover my vehicle?
Hondata covers most vehicles from 1992 up, but some vehicles require the use of an adapter harness and/or an OBDI ECU swap.

Why should I buy a Hondata system instead of a replacement standalone computer?
Nothing runs a Honda engine as well as Honda ECU. End of story.
If your car is a daily driver, then this is the system for you. If you are tuning a race only car where starting and idling is not a concern, and you need features that Hondata does not offer, like control of 8 injectors, then you will need to consider other systems. Running a Hondata system will not limit your power though. Two of the world's fastest Hondas; Erick's Racing's 9.99 second Civic and the Progress/Vortech 204 mph Civic both use Hondata systems.
If you will not be tuning the system yourself, but will be paying others for this, then the Hondata system not only drives better, costs less, and is much faster to tune, as it is supplied with numerous Honda specific maps to reduce your dyno time.
How do I tune the ECU?
For best results naturally aspirated ECUs should be tuned to each individual engine setup and forced induction ECUs must be tuned. Each engine combination is different and this is the only way to get optimum results for your application.
You can either get it tuned by a dealer or tune it yourself. Because it is best to tune the ECU using a dyno and wide band lambda meter, it usually works out best to get a dealer or someone with tuning experience and the equipment to tune the ECU for you.
If you want to tune Hondata for other people, see dealer requirements.
How much will it cost?
If you get your system tuned by a dealer (or someone with Hondata software) the prices range Hondata systems is from $195 to $995. The dealer's installation and dyno time is not included in this price.
If your car is OBD2 you will need to convert to a compatible OBD1 ECU from the compatible ecu list. For more information see what specific Hondata systems are offered for your vehicle.
