Sensors for Monitoring the Structural Health of a Bridge

Researchers at the University of Maryland have developed sensors for structural health monitoring of bridges by measuring certain quantities that reflect their actual integrity. The sensor is installed to monitor the status of the bearings to certain bridge points. The most practical way of keeping a safe transport infrastructure is by installing these sensors to help manage resources that will support the safe up-keeping of such bridges and act as an early warning system. The following video offers an insight on this research initiative with a brief introduction by Mehdi Kalantari, Assistant Research Scientist at University of Maryland.
