U.S. Navy’s Mobile User Objective System Satellites May Help Solve Communication Challenges in the Arctic

Lockheed Martin recently demonstrated that the U.S. Navy’s Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) satellites may help solve communication challenges in the arctic. Now people spread over thousands of square miles could have access to more secure, reliable communications. During company-funded tests, MUOS voice and data signals reached much farther north than previously thought, just 30 miles and 0.5 degrees of latitude shy of the North Pole.

NASA’s Uninhabited Aerial Vehicle Synthetic Aperture Radar System to Map Winter Movement of Glaciers

A high-precision radar instrument from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., left Southern California for Iceland today to create detailed maps of how glaciers move in the dead of winter. This will help scientists better understand some of the most basic processes involved in melting glaciers, which are major contributors to rising sea levels.

Texas Instruments (TI) today expanded its SAR (successive approximation register) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) product portfolio with a new family of 12 devices that provide the industry's widest analog supply and common-mode voltage ranges. The 1-channel ADS8881 family includes high-performance, ultra-low power 18- and 16-bit SAR ADCs with speed options ranging from 100 kSPS to 1 MSPS.
