Lund University Researchers Discover Cooling Strategy of Dung Beetles

South African dung beetles have come up with a unique strategy to escape the heat of the sun. They use their dung balls as a kind of air conditioning unit. Researchers from Lund University in Sweden, among others, have discovered this by putting small silicon boots on the beetles’ front legs.
