Sprint and Digi International have collaborated to provide WiMAX routers for sensor network and remote site connectivity. According to Digi International, the systems are configured for high-bandwidth applications, including video surveillance, mobile computing and digital signage. Clearwire and Sprint have licensed the routers.
According to Larry Kraft, Digi International’s Senior Vice President of global sales and marketing, the 4G significantly enhances the bandwidth and reduces the latency of wire-free WAN connections.
The ConnectPort X4 4G has Zigee to WiMAX routers and can be coupled with ZigBee-based systems and sensors. The Digi Connect WAN 4G features a USB, RS-232 serial and Ethernet. Digi is commercializing the routers for fleet management, traffic control signal, transportation, security, outdoor street lighting and energy management applications.
The router is available with an in-built cloud computing platform to integrate system data to consumers’ back-end system and to allow remote system management.
