New Linear Position Sensors from Macro Sensors

Macro Sensors has launched the MLW range of long stroke linear position sensing units for calculating absolute position displacements up to 1.2m.

These contact-free linear position transducers are provided in variable ranges from 300mm to 1,200mm, and are utilized in hydraulic cylinder and actuator feedback purposes, in which the sensor can be fixed outwardly or can be integrated into the actuator body or cylinder.

The sensor transfers a current signal through its tube, which is reflected by a permanent mobile magnet. The sensor calculates the time of flight for detecting the location of the magnet on the tube. This time-oriented position evaluation is transformed into an output signal.

The MLW series is activated by 24VDC, has  lower than +/-0.25% linearity and +/-0.01% recurrence throughout the entire range with outputs covering current, analog voltage, and SSI. The precise output provided by the magnetostrictive transducer ensures that no data is lost if there is a power shortage.

The sensor supplies a good ratio of stroke to length in longer ranges. The transducers feature a stainless steel probe independent electronics, and a die cast probe head having IP66 certification and IP67 make  for calculating the location of mobile machine sections for use in applications including injection molding machinery, turbine blades, paper and pulp mills, and process level management.

Since the sensing probe is packed to 5,000 psi, the MLW sensors can be enclosed within hydraulic cylinders resembling a locked loop output device. An additional float kit is provided for the magnet, which allows the MLW sensors to monitor the liquid level inside the tank.
