ST Reaffirms its Hold on the Consumer MEMS Market

According to a recent report published by market analyst iSuppli, sales of ST’s consumer MEMS products touched $353 million in 2011, registering a rise of almost 63%.

ST has been catering to the MEMS needs of mobile and consumer producers featuring both accelerometers and gyroscopes. It holds half the current market for both products. Over the last three years, the company has developed more than 30 gyroscopes, causing market trends to move from 1% to about 30% in just one year. Its products are deployed in gaming consoles and smart phones, while its accelerator prevents free-fall in laptops.

Its 8inch MEMS production line manufactures more than 1.5 million products each day.

ST recently introduced new members to its existing product line of microphones and pressure sensors. Its microphones make for compact, slim, lightweight mobile phones and portable products featuring more directionality and noise resistance and the devices will be able to measure atmospheric pressure or identify the location three-dimensionally.
